This year the World Championship of the 1:5 Touring Car Class was held in Brisbane/ Australia from 20th - 30th September, 2007. For the FG Factory Team this meant a slightly longer journey.
Free practising began already on Thursday, 20th September. The track was very demanding, partly very narrow and also some fast curves had to be managed. What a shock for the Australian drivers - the existing track record was beaten already during the counted practising runs!
Alltogether there were 8 heats, M. Feldmann/ FG was able to secure the pole position. Further B. Arnaldi/ Harm, M. Bayer/ FG and M. Lissau/ FG were qualified directly for the final. All other drivers had to go through the complete final runs which lasted 30 minutes in the WC. Here some of the top drivers had to give up according to lack of petrol, and some failed according to breakdowns or disqualification in the semi-finals.
The 60 minutes final promised to become rather thrilling. Drivers and material had to keep up an hour, with one pit stop for refueling. During the first half an hour M. Feldmann/ FG set the pace and was in lead with a great distance. Right at the beginning of the final M. Bayer and M. Lissau received a stop and go penalty according to a jump start. But nevertheless they made their way back to the lead through the complete field.
Later M. Bayer fell back again because of engine problems and unfortunately also M. Feldmann had to give up due to a technical defect.
Now M. Lissau/ FG took over the lead in front of B. Arnaldi/ Harm. He kept this lead right till the end and therefore won the World Championship title.
What a successful year for the young pleasant Dane who could now top his vice EC title with winning the World Championship. |
